Sailing season 2025

Published 00:00 on 13 Mar 2025

We hope you are looking forward to the 2025 sailing season at the club.

Following feedback on the 2024 sailing calendar and a WhatsApp poll about midweek sailing days, we've made some changes to the sailing calendar which is now up on the club website and available on our sailing app, Spond.

Through 2025 there will be 4 Race Series, each including both midweek and weekend racing. You'll need 8 results in a Series to qualify for the prizes.

Series 1 - 16 April to 21 May, 18 races with midweek racing on Wednesday evenings

Series 2 - 29 May to 29 June, 16 races with midweek racing on Thursday evenings

Series 3 - 2 July to 13 August, 16 races with midweek racing on Wednesday evenings

Series 4 - 21 August to 19 October, 16 races with midweek racing on Thursday evenings

There are also a series of CUP races as part of these Series - 2 in each of Series 1,2 and 4 - there's a cup for the best boat over the 6 races and you'll need 4 results to qualify.

There's a couple of additional competitions - a Long Distance race followed by a club BBQ (27 July), Club Regatta (13-14 September), Final Fling race at the end of the season (19 October) and weather permitting a New Years day Madness Trophy (1 Jan 2026).

For the non-racers there's also Club Sailing on alternate weekends - this is an opportunity to just cruise around the bay and/or improve sailing skills by sailing a different (club) boat (two-hander instead of single?). What and where you sail to be determined on the day by the OOD and Safety Officer in consultation with whomever wants to sail.

We expect to be in a position to offer Tuesday evening training sessions from around 13 May - how we run these is still being finalised. When we have confirmed dates and instructors we'll add the training dates to the calendar

All our sailing is dependent on having enough volunteers to cover OOD/Race Officer, Safety Boat crew and a tractor driver. If you're not sailing please consider volunteering on Spond for these roles, as we cannot get out on the water without these roles being filled.

Finally, there's a pre-season preparation day to get the boats and yard ready for the season on 5 April (10:00 - 14:00), so please come along and help check boats and equipment (your own and the clubs) and tidy up the yard, so we are good to go on the 12 April (first club sailing)

Wishing you all a successful and enjoyable season and look forward to seeing you at the club.
